Big Tobacco Spends Millions to Defeat Efforts to Cover Uninsured Children

- Leading up to November 6th, the tobacco industry spent $12 million to defeat the proposed cigarette tax increase, which was earmarked to fund health insurance coverage for more than 100,00 kids.*

- Several weeks earlier, federal legislators failed to overide the State Children's Health Insurance Program presidential veto. The bill would have provided coverage for millions of uninsured kids across the country through leverage of a national $.61 per pack tax on cigarettes.
WHEN LEGISLATORS DO NOT STAND STRONG, BIG TOBACCO WINS.  CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES LOSE!!!
